Description
Special Olympics North Carolina offers year-round sports training and competition for nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, making it the largest Special Olympics program in North America and the fifth largest in the world in terms of athlete participation. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and event organizers involved in Special Olympics statewide. SONC offers Olympics-type competition in 20 sports on local and state levels. Unified Sports is a key aspect of Special Olympics North Carolina programming where individuals with and without intellectual disabilities can compete together. Healthy Athletes offers free physicals and 8 health disciplines to athletes throughout the state at events called MedFests.
