Description
  • Although not commonly recognized, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths among individuals who are 65 years of age and older. In fact, falls among the elderly led to 1.8 million emergency room visits in 2000 and more than 10,000 deaths. Direct costs associated with those falls were estimated to be $16.4 billion. As the population ages, cost-effective interventions that reduce the risk of falls can have important positive financial and quality of life implications for those who are at risk of falling, to their families, and to the American health care system. The Werner Institute is providing a free fall risk assessment for those interested in determining fall risk. Dizziness Support Group: Quarterly, the Werner Institute of Balance and Dizziness Inc., has a support group for people with disorders of balance and dizziness. The goal of the group is to disseminate information about the treatments of dizziness and balance disorders.
