  • Established in 1983, Access Alaska has been serving seniors and people with disabilities throughout Alaska.

Promoting independence individuals can obtain a variety of services which include:
    • Information and Referral
    • Consumer Directed Personal Attendant Services - Access Alaska operates a consumer directed personal assistance program, Independent Care Advantage, that provides Medicaid eligible, low income Alaskan with disabilities a self managed program that provides them with the in home supports they need for community based living
    • Individual and Systems Advocacy
    • Independent Living Skills Instruction
    • Care Coordination and Home and Community Based Waivers - Access Alaska assists individuals in designing and utilizing individualized support systems to allow them to live in their community rather than an institution or nursing home by applying for and receiving services through home and community based waivers. This Medicaid and state supported program has helped hundreds of Alaskans statewide to continue to live with their families and in their own communities rather than in an institution.
    • Adaptive Equipment Loan - Assistive technology and adaptive equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, transfer benches, magnifiers, hospital beds, commodes, walkers, grab bars) are provided to individuals with disabilities to increase their safety and independence in their homes and the community. Over 250 Alaskans throughout Access Alaska’s Interior and South Central Regions use this service annually; many of them are low income and do not have the funds available to purchase the equipment nor does their health care insurance (private or public) cover the items
    • Home Accessibility Modifications - Each year, Access Alaska helps to make thirty-five to forty homes or apartments in our service region more accessible. Using a combination of state and federal grants, service group contributions, Medicaid reimbursement, and individual donations, the accessibility modifications provided by trained contractors have helped remove the barriers to Alaskans with disabilities to literally have access to their own homes, families, and community.
    • Peer Counseling
    • Youth Transition from School to Work - Access Alaska Fairbanks promotes opportunities for youth (14-21) with disabilities to engage in career development in the fields of technology, science, engineering, and mathematics. Program activities include arranging mentoring for interested youth with professionals who work in the fields of science and technology, free tuition for science and technology camps, attending science related community lectures, the support of basic educational and work skills, and the development of volunteer and paid internships. Sixteen youth with disabilities participated in Access Alaska’s Transition from school to work program.
    • Developmental Disabilities Services - Access Alaska offers individualized case management services and facilitation of state core funding for Alaskans who experience developmental disabilities (DD) and are eligible for state DD services.
    • Clinical Services - Access Alaska’s Anchorage office offers specialized clinical services for area residents who experience mental/behavioral health disabilities. Individualized case management, clinical therapy, substance abuse and functional assessments, clinical medication management, group therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, and positive behavioral supports and skills training are all available through our on-staff specialized clinical staff team.
    • Interpreter Referral Services - One of the greatest barriers to community integration and access to goods and services for persons who experience deafness and hardness of hearing is the timely availability of accurate communication services. In 2003, Access Alaska Fairbanks started an Interpreter Referral Service that coordinates requests for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter requests in the community. Access schedules requests for ASL services with trained interpreters, who work as part time staff to Access Alaska.
