Description
  • The mission of Special Olympics Utah is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics Utah (SOUT), a chapter of Special Olympics Incorporated, was established in 1969. SOUT receives no local, state or federal government support and is not affiliated with United Way. SOUT is a non-profit Utah corporation, operated by Utahns for Utah's intellectually disabled citizens. Every dime donated to SOUT stays in Utah.

    COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING

More than 2,000 athletes from local communities participate in SOUT. The state is divided along geographical and county lines into seven "Area" programs.

Each Area is administered to by an Area Director, who is supervised by Area Coordinators from the SOUT state office.

This grass-roots supervision results in excellent competition, training, fund raising, finances, out-reach, public education and volunteer recruitment at the local level. In an Area program, athletes are enrolled and training by volunteer coaches. SOUT operates out of statewide headquarters in Salt Lake City.
