Description
  • Our mission is to build bridges from hospital dependency to personal independence through recreational and sports therapy. Its primary objective is to introduce people with spinal cord injuries or other similarly disabling conditions to a stimulating recreational environment as soon as possible after hospitalization or primary rehabilitation, and to involve them in life sports and recreation - individually, through WSRA or through other organizations.

WSRA is an exempt organization under Section 501 {c}{3} of the Internal Revenue Code.

Notes

  • WSRA provides counsellors to work one-on-one with individuals who are in or have recently completed rehabilitative therapy in adapting to use of wheelchairs.
  • Through example, coaching and conversation, the counsellor exposes the individual to a variety of potential sports and recreational activities and helps the individual develop skills and confidence in one or more of those areas.
  • WSRA counsellors are all experienced wheelchair atheletes, with a range of competetive levels, but a unifying sense of enthusiasm and achievement. Most WSRA counsellors had their first exposure to wheelchair sports through WSRA.
