The Senior Service Fellow will direct the work of HPSB, which has the lead responsibility within NCHS for monitoring the progress of both Healthy People 2010 and Healthy People 2020 (HP2020). As branch chief, the Fellow will plan, organize, and lead a comprehensive program of data development, measurement research, and statistical analysis to address the needs of the HP program. Critical functions include establishing and monitoring metrics to track progress toward more than 1,000 health-related objectives in HP2020; developing new approaches for assessing progress toward the elimination of disparities and inequities in health and health care based on socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, disability status, age, gender, and rurality; and providing statistical leadership in the development and dissemination of summary measures of population health. The incumbent will serve as the NCHS spokesperson on HP issues, and provide guidance to the NCHS Director, as well as to senior CDC and other HHS officials on methodological questions in tracking HP objectives. The position requires frequent presentations at HP meetings across the country on measurement issues-some of which may involve disagreements among stakeholders and call for extensive methodological and interpersonal skills-as well as at international meetings on tracking population health objectives. In addition, the Fellow will be responsible for collaborations with other branches in OAE to develop and maintain new tools for disseminating health indicator data to a wide variety of stakeholders.
