Under general supervision of the Director, provides leadership and direction for disability management counselors and interns ensuring that students with disabilities receive services and accommodations appropriate for their disabilities, in order to provide equal access to the university\\\'s educational resources. Facilitates student self-assessment for strengths and utilizes them to teach self advocacy and compensatory strategies to students with disabilities and assesses student learning outcomes. Supervises counseling staff and graduate interns and reviews accommodation decisions and documentation for compliance and appropriateness. Reviews and accepts disability documentation, assesses the need for and authorizes accommodations, serves as an information resource for students, faculty, staff and parents in matters related to disabilities, universal design and best practices of learning acquisition for student with disabilities. Counsels students new to the university or the DRES department, assisting them in developing a disability management plan and a plan to acquire the skills necessary to become a successful student. Reviews and interprets documentation of physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, including psycho-educational assessment reports. Provides screening for students without disability documentation and refers them to appropriate providers for formal diagnosis and documentation. Maintains ethical standards regarding highly sensitive disability documents, confidentiality and reporting requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
