NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Disability Employment Awareness Month

We all play an important part in fostering a more inclusive workforce, one where every person is recognized for his or her abilities — every day of every month.  NCHPAD is proud to support National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Held each October, NDEAM aims to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.  Whether you are a person with a disability seeking gainful employment or you are an employer who simply wishes to be intentional about diversifying your workforce, there are resources available to be successful.  Learn more about fostering a disability-friendly work culture by visiting the ODEP website: www.dol.gov/ndeam.

With a national population of approximately 56 million Americans who live with disabilities, 70% are unemployed.  Hiring employees with a disability ensures that people who live with a disability have an equal opportunity to create and contribute to personal, family, local, national and international labor driven successes. When we are intentional about diversifying our workforce through successful recruitment strategies and avoiding discriminatory hiring practices we all benefit.
