AXIS' 2001 home season was awarded an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design (design by Mario Alonzo). They were also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Design (design by Alexander Nichols) and Outstanding Achievement in Choreography for 'Suite sans Suite' (choreography by Sonya Delwaide). AXIS garnered three Isadora Duncan Dance Awards for their 2000 home season; Outstanding Achievement in Company Performance, Outstanding Achievement in Choreography for Bill T. Jones' 'Fantasy in C Major', and Outstanding Achievement in Individual Performance by AXIS dancer Uli Schmitz, the first disabled dancer to receive such an award. In November 2000, AXIS was honored with a 'Goldie' for Dance from the San Francisco Bay Guardian's Outstanding Local Discovery Awards. Oakland City Council has proclaimed March 10, 2002 as AXIS Dance Company Day in honor of their performance in the Olympic Arts Festival and their artistic achievements of the past 14 years.
