The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of controlled breathing techniques and ventilatory and upper-extremity training on cardiopulmonary and metabolic function and exercise tolerance in individuals with SCI. The exercise program was designed for individuals with SCI and required the participants to train 60 minutes a day, three times per week, for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, there were significant increases in ventilatory muscle strength, controlled breathing, and time to fatigue.
