What is a Mumpkin?


Mumpkin = Pumpkin + Mum

Making a mumpkin is a fun, fall activity that the whole family can enjoy!  Get the steps below, watch a video and make a tasty treat with your left over pumpkin seeds. 

Steps to Make a Mumpkin:
 
1. Gather materials.  You will need a pumpkin, mum, knife or carving tool, large spoon, water and soil.
2. Cut off the top of the pumpkin.
3. Scoop out all of the pumpkin guts and seeds.  Save the seeds to enjoy a treat later!
4. Make sure the mum fits into the pumpkin.
5. Fill the pumpkin with soil and add some water.
6. Plant the mum inside the pumpkin and water.
7. Enjoy your mumpkin!

Salted Pumpkin Seeds
 
Ingredients
For each half cup of raw pumpkin seeds, you’ll need:
•    ½ cup raw pumpkin seeds
•    1 teaspoon olive oil
•    ½ teaspoon sea salt
•    ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
1.    Save pumpkin seeds from pumpkin and rinse thoroughly.
2.    Preheat oven to 300 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3.    Toss all ingredients in bowl and mix well so each seed is coated.
4.     Spread the seeds out on the prepared baking sheet in one layer.
5.    Bake for 20-30 minutes or when seeds become slightly golden.

Dill Pickle Pumpkin Seeds
Ingredients
