Valvular heart disease is a condition involving damage to or a defect in one of the four heart valves. The heart valves are important because they pump blood through and from the heart. When working with clients who have valvular heart disease, health professionals need to be cautious. Depending on the severity of the client's disease, exercise may be contraindicated.
