The Institute on Community Integration, University of Minnesota, has produced a publication titled Impact: Feature Issue on Social Inclusion Through Recreation for Persons with Disabilities. Recreation programs have a number of characteristics that make them ideal places for individuals with disabilities to experience social inclusion and friendship-building. Articles in this publication describe those characteristics and strategies for developing meaningful and ongoing social connections between persons with and without disabilities, barriers to recreation participation, and individual success stories.
