Notes

The Jennifer Steensen Field of Dreams (JSFD) is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit therapeutic riding and carriage driving organization which has become well-known and respected throughout central Iowa. Since our inception in 1998, we have helped bodies to improve function, minds to open and explore, and hearts to warm and heal.

In the past 4 years, JSFD has served clients with disabilities that include cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, blindness, ADHD, learning disabilities and brain injury resulting in almost 2000 hours of lessons. This represents an average of 80 clients per year; and we have no intention of slowing down.

At JSFD, we believe that each client is an individual and should be treated as a person with independent thoughts, desires and goals. The teaching philosophy of JSFD combines several time-tested disciplines to complete our vision of improving the quality of life through therapeutic riding and driving. We incorporate yoga, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, Centered Riding and spatial reasoning to form a specially designed curriculum which provides every opportunity for success. The results that we have already seen with our program are innumerable. Therapeutic clients have improved their balance, coordination, flexibility, posture, equilibrium, speech, strength, sequencing skills, self-esteem, confidence, interpersonal relationships, and independence. We fully expect no less success for the participants in our at-risk sessions.
