Notes

The Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities. NVTRP is a Premier Center accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) and a member center of the Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia (TRAV).

Originally chartered in 1980, NVTRP provides equine-assisted activities to riders with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities. We currently serve 80 riders and work with three NARHA Certified Riding Instructors, eleven horses, and 175 volunteers.

Our riders participate in the challenging, physically-active sport of horseback riding. Lesson plans include riding skills, exercise, trail or field rides and games, as well as care and grooming of the horses. Through riding, students improve balance, coordination, muscular strength, social skills and self-confidence.
