Young Women on the Move
The Healthworks Foundation Fitness Center's Young Women on The Move (YWOM) Program provides at-risk girls, ages 12-16, with fitness and health and wellness education. This 8-week program (4 weeks in the summer and 4 weeks during school vacations) primarily targets girls who do not have access to physical fitness opportunities and are at risk for to developing diseases related to a sedentary lifestyle. The overarching goal is to enhance participants' quality of life and give them tools to deal with life challenges.

Women @ Healthworks Health & Wellness Series
Women @ Healthworks is a twelve-week program at the Foundation Fitness Center that teaches, supports, and motivates women to make healthy changes around exercise, nutrition and stress management that will positively impact their health and career opportunities. Women @ Healthworks' participants are students at the Women @ Work program at St. Mary's Women and Children's Center. Women @ Work is a welfare reform employment readiness-training program that addresses the vocational needs of women who face multiple barriers to employment including homelessness, lack of GED or high school diploma, history of substance abuse or domestic violence, and difficulty obtaining or sustaining employment.

Complementing job-readiness training, Women @ Healthworks offers women additional tools to improve their quality of life and, in turn, improve their chances of maintaining stable employment. Over the course of twelve weeks, participants attend weekly, two-hour workshops, which center on nutrition, mind and body, exercise and wellness issues and two weekly individual or group cardiovascular and strength-training workouts. In addition, participants will receive pre and post health screenings and fitness assessments. This program is generously supported by the Deutsche Bank Community Involvement Board.

Pre- and Post-Natal Fitness Program
The goals of this program are:

  • to impart health education to pregnant teens
  • to help prevent infant mortality in African American and Latina women
  • to insure the pregnant and postnatal members receive the most appropriate and helpful services and education. Pregnant or parenting members of the Foundation Fitness Center are offered special group exercise classes focusing on strength training, yoga and meditation; personal training focusing on pre- and post-natal health concerns, and educational workshops.

Group Exercise
Based on the quality of classes offered at Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women, the Healthworks Foundation Fitness Center offers group exercise classes including hip hop, self defense, Pilates, yoga, boxing, and step aerobics. The goal of our group exercise classes is to increase fitness levels, body awareness, and enhance each member's ability to autonomously engage in a safe and effective workout. Presently classes are designed for our beginner to intermediate members.
