Notes

Maintaining good overall fitness is an excellent way to prevent many health problems. South Central Regional Medical Center's Wellness Center offers a complete fitness program personally designed for each member.

The Wellness Center provides a physical health assessment to each new member. New members complete a medical history prior to the assessment to determine if there are conditions present that require attention by a physician. The assessment includes testing in flexibility, upper body strength, and hand grip strength. A sub-maximal stress test is given to test cardiovascular fitness and to detect any heart abnormality or an abnormal EKG. Based on the results of the assessment, an exercise physiologist develops a profile and an exercise prescription for the individual. The member then completes an orientation where the exercise physiologist explains frequency, duration, intensity, and mode of the exercise program.

The Wellness Center offers the following:
  • A general fitness area for members. The fitness area offers the following equipment: Stairmasters and Gauntlet stepmills, treadmills, Airdyne and Windracer stationary bicycles, Cybex machine weights, free weights, dumbbells, leg press, Smith machine, and more.
  • Cardio Kids - a supervised fitness program for children age 14 and under.
  • Aerobic exercise classes. Aerobics classes include: Step - a beginner level step class; Super Tone- weight training focused on toning all the muscle groups of the body; Step Interval Advanced Step class; Combo - a combination of cardiovascular exercise, Step, weight training, and abdominal training; Over 50 - exercise for people over age 50; Power Punch & Kick; Pump Weights; and internal style aerobics.
  • Phase 2 & 3 cardiac rehabilitation program, pulmonary program, and supervised exercise class. Participation in the cardiac and pulmonary programs requires physician referral.
