Hello! I am writing to share about Dan Zimmerman’s Sea to Sea ride this Summer, and find out how he can connect with your adaptive cycling program—to observe and/or participate. He has been showing other stroke survivors in the Gilbert area how to ride recumbent trikes and wants to learn all he can in order to put adaptive cycling into the hands of the local stroke community. In Dan’s words, “I’m a teaching newbie. I learned about recumbent triking the hard way after my stroke (doctors had told me “wheelchair for life and no talking”—now I’m talking, walking and riding, and improving all the time). I discovered triking on my own with no help from anyone, after spending four years on the couch not knowing this was available to me. Now I want to be a more effective adaptive cycling coach, and get stroke survivors into riding as soon as it’s possible for them. I have three new Catrikes available for teaching these individuals.” Dan is leading a nationwide tour by trike, from Anacortes, WA to Boston, MA (nearly 4,000 miles) June 4 – Sept 10, and bringing the Catrikes along to demonstrate the benefits of recumbent triking to anyone interested. He also has room for one or two more riding participants (aka team members) on the tour. Meanwhile, he wants to add to his knowledge base and would like to participate in an upcoming event in the Phoenix area.
