Notes

SKYANCHOR was established in 1970 in Washington DC as an answer to the lack of educational and recreational programs for youth and seniors. Its legacy include day and residential camps; senior citizen day care; Wee School, a weekday early childhood education program and latchkey programs for after school tutoring during this period.

Relocating to Surry County, Virginia in 1985, SKYANCHOR is situated on a picturesque 45 acre farm which includes a lake for fishing and is readily accessible to communities in both Central Virginia and Hampton Roads and only minutes away from Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg, the first permanent settlements in our country.

The SKYANCHOR disAbility Awareness program was implemented in 2002 to enrich the lives of children, youth and adults, both able and disabled by incorporating an awareness challenge course, hiking trail and outdoor camping, all especially created to stimulate and encourage a growing sensitivity while learning techniques and strategies to use when interacting with persons living with disabilities.

SKYANCHOR is firmly committed to the ideal of providing a multitude of experiences to help foster understanding and acceptance while enhancing self-esteem, spiritual growth and responsibility for all individuals, both able and disabled.
