Notes

A joint program of Memorial Hospital and the YMCA

The Memorial Hospital-YMCA Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is an exercise program for graduates of a Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation program or persons with stable coronary artery disease.

The program focuses on individuals who have had a heart attack, open heart surgery, coronary angioplasty or stent, or those who are at risk for coronary artery disease. The program helps people keep exercising or make progress in their exercise routines. Individuals undergo an initial consultation with an exercise specialist from Memorial Hospital to help determine which form of exercise is appropriate.

To begin the program, a physician referral and exercise tolerance test (stress test) are needed.

Activity type: Aerobic activity is best suited for those dealing with cardiac problems who want to maintain total health and fitness. The program features tailored exercise programs that include flexibility, muscular and cardiovascular training and are administered by exercise specialists.

The program is conducted by Memorial Hospital's staff, which includes registered nurses specially trained in cardiac rehabilitation as well as an exercise specialist who serves as a resource for patients.

Patients are encouraged to exercise at their own discretion. A Memorial staff person is available after 2:30 p.m. Mondays by appointment. New patients must schedule an appointment before beginning the program.

You must be a member of the YMCA to participate at a YMCA center.
