International Walk/Wheel to School Day, October 8, 2008
In 1997, the Partnership for a Walkable America sponsored the first National
Walk Our Children to School Day in Chicago, modeled after the United
Kingdom's lead. Back then, it was simply a day to bring community leaders
and children together to create awareness of the need for communities to be walkable. This year, join kids and families around the globe to walk,
wheel, and bicycle to school on October 8, 2008, as well as throughout the
month of October.
As part of two grants that NCPAD was awarded to assist the Safe Routes to
School (SRTS) initiative with ensuring children with disabilities are
included in the program components, NCPAD and the Mayor's Fitness Council of
Chicago are assisting two local Chicago Public Schools with their Walk/Wheel
to School Day. It's not too late to create your own celebration. Go to

information.
