The regional meeting series, which takes place in three locations this fall, features a myriad of programs aimed to increase not only the awareness of stroke but also to provide stroke care professionals with practical information they can use to change their practice today.

What are the goals and objectives of the regional meetings?
Nurses Meeting
The goal of the 2008 nurse meeting is to improve patient care across the stroke continuum. The meeting will employ a two-tiered approach to offering stroke-focused nursing education to both the novice and more experienced stroke nurses. The Stroke Bedside Basics track has content designed to educate nurses who have less than one year of experience in stroke care. It contains an overview of the bedside skills necessary to offer safe and efficient evidence-based nursing care to the stroke patient. The Beyond the Basics track contains content designed for nurses who have worked in stroke for more than two years, nurse managers or stroke center coordinators, and rehabilitation professionals.

After the conclusion of the meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss evidence-based and emerging best practices for the nurses role in managing stroke risk factors, treating acute stroke and maximizing quality of life through state-of-the-art stroke rehabilitation and recovery practices.
  • Demonstrate the multiple roles nurses can play in maintaining quality and continuity of stroke care.
  • Formulate dialogue among nursing professionals to identity and address gaps within the stroke care continuum.

Interdisciplinary Meeting
The goal of the interdisciplinary meeting is to improve patient care by updating participants on new evidence-based and emerging treatments across the stroke continuum, while emphasizing a multi-disciplinary approach that will enhance the care continuum. The content will focus on the entire stroke team, highlighting evidence-based and emerging best medical practice, and will be presented by recognized experts.

After the conclusion of the meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss evidence-based and emerging best practices for managing stroke risk factors, treating acute stroke, and maximizing quality of life through state-of-the-art stroke rehabilitation and recovery practices.
  • Demonstrate the importance of stroke continuity of care in maximizing patient outcomes.
  • Formulate dialogue and action to narrow identified gaps within the care continuum to improve patient outcomes.
