Through the Healthy Community Grants Program and the Healthy Community Outreach Program, Aetna and the Aetna Foundation will award up to $4 million for philanthropic initiatives focused on health care issues in the designated communities listed below.

Community-based initiatives that increase access to quality health care and improve overall wellness in the following areas:

Health Literacy, including plain language approach to communications, public education and awareness programs, and training and education for health care professionals, staff and patients. Obesity, including diabetes and other disease management

Applications
Applications will be accepted in quarterly cycles with submission closing dates of:

February 15
May 15
August 15
November 15

Note: These are the deadlines for the full proposal. We did not have a 2010 February 15 close date/cycle. It will be in place for 2011, and we anticipate having the same application deadline dates in 2011.
