An acessible ramp is integrated into the playground |
The benefits of play for children are extensive, so it is important that play areas be accessible to all. To assure that this occurs, the U.S. Access Board convened a committee of individuals representing a variety of organizations that understand the many complexities of play areas and children with disabilities. The committee developed recommendations that were compiled and made available to the public for comment. Following the public comment period, the recommendations were revised. Accessible play grounds and areas are now required by law. More information on designing playground experiences for all children can be found in the factsheet 'Playgrounds for All'.
