NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Font Size:

Introduction

Professors,

An ACSM/NCHPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Traineris a fitness professional who assesses, develops, and implements individualized exercise programming for healthy or medically-cleared persons with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities. The certification was created in collaboration with the National Center on Health, Physical Activity, and Disability (NCHPAD) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), preparing exercise specialists to work with people who have health risks and/or physical limitations.  As over 61 million Americans have a disability, NCHPAD feels this information is vital to all trainers and exercise specialists.

To ensure that the next generation of trainers is better equipped to work with this vast and growing population, NCHPAD created IFT University to provide a toolkit of CIFT training materials to be used in college courses. Offering the Inclusive Fitness Training course at your school will greatly enable your students to work with a much broader population and increase their employability after graduation. As a professor, NCHPAD will provide you with Power Points and other resources that will not only help better educate your students about disability, but also to sit for the CIFT exam once they have completed your class and their Bachelor’s degree.*

Should you choose to host an inclusive fitness training class at your school and sign a letter of agreement, you will be given a packet of information including:

  • PowerPoints for each chapter
  • A sample course description
  • A list of NCHPAD tools at your disposal
  • Suggested class projects
  • Examples of implementing hands-on components
  • Course evaluation
  • Direct access to NCHPAD information specialists

*Please note to sit for the exam students must have a current ACSM or NCAA- accredited health/fitness related certification or a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Recreation Therapy or Adapted Physical Education.
