The concrete raised beds with brick facing and limestone cap in the Enabling Garden at the Chicago Botanic Garden range in height from 18 inches to 41 inches and are up to 5 feet wide to be accessible all around as shown here. Notice the thin wall on one side that allows close access for those gardening alongside vs. the sitting wall on the other for those ambulatory gardeners who wish to sit on the edge. Only the first 24 to 30 inches are actively tended in beds accessed from one side only. Areas beyond this limit are planted with low maintenance plants tended with tools that extend reach.
