NCHPAD New Documents: New Activity Guidelines and Certification for Fitness Professionals


The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans

This new NCHPAD document summarizes the physical activity guidelines specific for adults with disabilities that were recently issued from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and also provides links to more information about the guidelines, including a download for policy makers and health professionals, a guide for adults, a toolkit for organizations and communities, and a report from the advisory committee for health professionals and researchers.

Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer

The ACSM/NCHPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer is a fitness professional involved in developing and implementing an individualized exercise program for a person who may have a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability, and who is healthy or has medical clearance to perform independent physical activity. CIFT-certified professionals hold a current NCCA-accredited health/fitness certification and CPR and AED certifications. In addition to knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise testing and programming, a CIFT has knowledge in inclusive facility design, awareness of social inclusion for people with disabilities and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
