    Research to Aid Persons with Disabilities (RAPD) Grant, National Science Foundation Applications Deadline: March 1, 2009

    The RAPD program supports research that will lead to the development of new technologies, devices, or software for persons with disabilities. Areas of particular recent interest are disability-related research in neuroscience/neuroengineering and rehabilitation robotics.

    Quality of Life Grants for Organizations Serving Individuals With Paralysis, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation Deadline: March 1, 2009

    These grants are awarded to programs or projects that improve the daily lives of people with paralysis, with some emphasis on, but not limited to, paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries. Quality of Life grants are most often awarded to nonprofit organizations, but may also be awarded to community parks, schools, veterans hospitals, tribal entities, etc.

    Christina Skoski, M.D., Scholarship Fund, Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) Deadline: March 1, 2009

    The ACA announces the establishment of this fund, which will award a $1,000 scholarship to a student with limb loss who has a special desire to learn, exhibits potential for success, and plans to attend a 4-year college.

    Call for Papers: Reducing Health Disparities Among Youth: Promising Strategies, Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) Deadline: March 1, 2009

    The SOPHE is publishing a supplement of Health Promotion Practice in collaboration with CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health. This supplement will feature practice-based programs, interventions, and projects that have been successful in reducing disparities affecting children and adolescents, including social determinants of health.

    Health Games Research: Advancing Effectiveness of Interactive Games for Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Deadline: April 8, 2009

    This national program funds research to advance the innovation, design, and effectiveness of health games and game technologies so that they help people improve their health-related behaviors and, as a result, achieve significantly better health outcomes.

    Active Living Research, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Application Deadline: April 28, 2009

    Active Living Research supports research to inform policy and environmental strategies for increasing physical activity among children and adolescents, decreasing their sedentary behaviors and preventing obesity. Target populations include children and adolescents ages 3 to 18, especially those who are at greatest risk for obesity, including racial/ethnic populations and children living in under-resourced and low-income communities.
