The CDC, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Division of Adult and Community Health (DACH), announces the opportunity to apply for funds to advance, implement and sustain evidence and practice-based chronic disease community programs that promote policy, organizational, systems and environmental community change. Mattel Announces Continuation of Grant Program to Benefit Children
Deadline for Applications: July 15, 2008

Mattel and the Mattel Children's Foundation have announced they will continue the Mattel Domestic Grantmaking Program, which provides funding for organizations benefiting children in the United States including programs that directly and effectively impact children with demonstrated needs (physical, financial, emotional, and health-related).

Real Choice Systems Change (RCSC) and Aging and Disability Resource Center/Area Agencies on Aging (ADRC) Grants

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approximately $13 million in funding available to continue to support states' efforts to address complex issues in long-term care reform.

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and Department of Education request for written input regarding NIDRR's long-range plan for fiscal years 2010-2014 (the 2010-2014 Plan). Input is requested on the following three priorities:

  • DRRP on Research Centers to Improve Outcomes for Individuals with Disabilities from Traditionally Underserved Racial and Ethnic Populations;
  • RRTC on Individuals With Disabilities Living in Rural Areas; and
  • RERC on Technologies for Successful Aging with Disability.

Request for Proposals, Influence of Special Olympics on Community Health and Development: A Preliminary Study of Promising Practices
Deadline: May 16, 2008

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition to athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID). This qualitative, case study design project aims to document the extent of connectedness between Special Olympics and community entities as well as the nature and extent of influences of Special Olympics on those community entities. Applicants must have a faculty appointment at an accredited U.S. or international University, or in a senior research position within a nonprofit/NGO.

NIDRR announces four new proposed grant priorities for its RERCs. The topics for the proposed centers are as follows:

1. Enhancing the Functional and Employment Outcomes of Individuals who Experience a Stroke
2. Enhancing the Functional and Employment Outcomes of Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis
3. Aging With Physical Disability: Reducing Secondary Conditions and Enhancing Health and Participation, Including Employment
4. Participation and Community Living for Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities.
