A report published recently, November 2018, suggests the estimated prevalence of autism in US children could be as high as 1 in 40. The researchers used data from the 2016 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) nationally representative survey of 50,212 children aged 0 to 17 years. Survey responses are parent-reported and ask questions about the following: whether children ever received an ASD diagnosis by a care provider, current ASD status, health care use, access and challenges, and methods of treatment.
