Notes

The Therapeutic Fitness Center was created at the Peoria Center to help people with disabilities:

  • Increase cardiovascular fitness
  • Increase strength and endurance
  • Increase flexibility
  • Improve level of independence
  • Improve self-image and self-confidence
Their equipment can be adapted to accommodate a wide variety of sizes and abilities - this is not your average gym equipment!

The gym was designed to serve people ages ten and up with various disabilities including, but not limited to: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities.

Minimal requirements to participate include:
  • The ability to follow 1-2 step directions
  • Reliable yes/no response
  • Moderate or higher level of cognitive ability
  • Physician clearance

**They are not able to safely accommodate people who have self-injurious behaviors, aggression towards others, uncontrolled seizures, or cardiace instability.

What does it cost?
