The Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is a team of professionals dedicated to providing leisure time opportunities to our citizens. We feel that positive recreational experiences are critical to the development and maintenance of good physical and mental community health. Adaptive Recreation Programs include:

  • R.E.A.C.H. - Recreation Education through Alternative Choices for a Healthy Life! Our R.E.A.C.H. program is about to begin again. Recreation leaders will be staffed at local parks to provide recreational and mentoring opportunities to youth in a friendly, safe and positive environment. Painting, drama, new games, and sports are just a few of the activities the counselors will be planning . Our first session will be after school and an extended session will begin after school is complete.

  • SPLAT! Sports, Play & Leisure Activities for Tots - Little ones of all ability levels are invited to play! This class is designed for those youngsters who need to work on balance, play skills, coordination, and gross motor skills. Children with all abilities are invited to come to this unique class taught by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. A parent will need to be present for this class.

  • Water Skiing

  • Wheelchair Basketball

  • Wheelchair Tennis - Kids with physical disabilities will be coached to learn the basic skills in tennis and how to play competitvely. Practices will be with the adult tennis team. Learn drills, mobility skills, cardio exercise and match play.

  • Wheelchair Sports Camp - This is a five day camp for youth ages seven through 18 who are physically disabled and require the use of a wheelchair to play sports. Come and learn how to play basketball, tennis, team handball, softball, roller hockey and much more!
