MISSION:
The Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania (SBAWP) is a charitable, non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities, especially those with spina bifida and their families, by providing a continuum of direct service, education and advocacy.

The Developmental Summer Camp Program combines recreation with therapeutic and prevocational programming in five different sessions grouped by age and ability for children, teens, and adults with spina bifida. Activities are designed to foster human growth in all developmental areas.

Daily activities include:
  • swimming,
  • adaptive sports,
  • creative arts,
  • environmental nature,
  • camping exploration,
  • career centered workshops
  • evening entertainment and activities.

Critical skill training is provided in:
  • mobility,
  • wheelchair transfer training,
  • activities of daily living,
  • social interaction, planning,
  • cooperation,
  • problem- solving,
  • self care,
  • health care.

The Transition Assessment Preparation and Planning (TAPP) program is one of many activities campers take part in. The Acronym, TAPP, stands for Transition, Assessment, Preparation and Planning. It is one of five programs currently offered by the Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania.
