Notes

The Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation department provides support services to empower Chapel Hill's citizens with disabilities to develop active, healthy and playful lifestyles. The Parks and Recreation Department offers community-based recreation activities and leisure services specially designed for youth and adults who have a disability and/or special needs.

Orientation to Therapeutic Recreation Services - Staff is available to meet with you to discuss recreation opportunities that are available. Please call for an interview prior to registering for classes. Staff can provide recreation skills assessment to help answer your questions regarding the activities that are most appropriate for you, a family member or an individual in your care.

Inclusion Services - The Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department affirms the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires that every person with a disability, have the right to be included in community recreation services. If specific skills are needed to participate in an activity, that should be noted in the description or can be described to you before you decide to register, the Therapeutic Recreation staff is trained to assist you or your family member through the use of reasonable accommodations. Accommodations are based on individuals' needs and abilities. Services include trained support staff, adapted equipment, large print/Braille, and sign language interpreters.
