How How from Camp Wanake, a Christian camp operated by the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Camp Wanake offers an extensive Christian summer camping program for children and youth from grade 1 to recent graduates, as well as youth and adults with cognitive impairments. In addition to the traditional "small group" camping (pioneered at Wanake almost 50 years ago), the camp also offers special programs including the low elements challenge course, indoor rock climbing wall and outdoor rock climbing tower, bicycling, music, fishing and boating, art, rappeling, and a special Russian Peace Camp featuring campers and counselors from Russia.
"Wanake" (pronounced Wah' na kee) is taken from the first syllables of a Native American phrase that means "A beautiful spiritual place among the hills." This is an apt description of the camp's rolling woods and lakes.
