The Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department is creating a networking program for children and young adults on the autism spectrum. The WRC will pioneer a program, ASPY (Autistic Socialization Program for Youth), specifically for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The sessions will be divided into two 1-hour sections. The first hour (5-6 pm) will focus on a broad category such as arts/crafts. Within that category, the children may be given 2 choices to chose from, such as paper bag puppets and pottery. Also, a youth fitness room is available that features a horizontal climbing wall, a Wii dance pad, and Game Boy exercise bikes!
The second hour (6-7 pm) will be swim time. During swim time, we will have free swim or an activity. The Waynesville Recreation Center has a lap swim pool and a water park pool which contains a slide, fountains to play on, sprinklers and many other features to enjoy!
