Notes

The sports and recreation program offered through IndependenceFirst provide youth and adults with disabilities exciting opportunities to play wheelchair and adapted sports. Wheelchair basketball, wheelchair softball, and wheelchair tennis are the most popular and we use the rules designed for these wheelchair sports. We also have other adapted sports such as ice hockey, boccia, and waterskiing. All of our sports programs are implemented in the community and we always encourage people without disabilities to participate as well.

IndependenceFirst is a non-profit agency directed by, and for the benefit of, persons with disabilities, primarily serving the four county metropolitan Milwaukee areas. The agency mission is to effectively facilitate empowerment of individuals with disabilities through:

  • Education
  • Advocacy
  • Independent Living Services
  • Coalition Building
