Notes

Camp For All is a unique camping and retreat facility that works in partnership with special needs groups to enrich the lives of people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Campers of all ages and abilities gain self-esteem and independence while having fun, learning new skills and bonding with others who share their challenges.

Located between Houston and Austin, in Washington County, Texas, Camp For All encourages campers to soar beyond their limitations through participation in dozens of fun and therapeutic programs, including horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, archery, water activities, team sports, arts and crafts, a nature program, and much more.

Through weeklong summer camps, weekend retreats and day programs, Camp For All, a not-for-profit organization, serves more than 70 different special needs and mission-related organizations annually.

Camp programs are designed in partnership with attending groups and implemented by CFA's professionally trained and certified staff, many of whom have worked in the medical and special needs fields. When creating programs for each visiting group, varying physical skill levels, mental capabilities, mobility requirements, and age and interest differences are considered so that campers are challenged to reach their individual potential.

Aquatics
Campers swim and float down the "lazy river" in a specially designed pool that features a sloping entrance and special lift to accommodate those in wheelchairs or who have limited mobility. Sports equipment for a variety of therapeutic and recreational water games engage campers in water activity.

Archery
The archery range accommodates several campers once and features special equipment for customizing the program to meet each group's needs.

Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts activities take place indoors as well as on the large porch of the arts and crafts barn. Projects are planned according to age and interest, with access to a kiln for firing ceramics and a wheelchair-accessible teaching kitchen.

Biking
The camp has 25 mountain bikes for exploring camp trails and out-of-the-way places.

Challenge (ROPES) Course
The multi-level challenge course is designed to enhance self-reliance and self-esteem and to teach campers to work together as a team. Its elements allow for the varying interest and ability of campers.

Equestrian Program
The equestrian program provides recreational, educational and therapeutic benefits to people of all abilities by encouraging them to mount, ride and care for horses, thus promoting independence, self-esteem and improved physical ability. Camp For All's Equestrian Center includes a covered, lighted riding arena, stables and tack areas.

Fine Arts
A fine arts program, includes a photographic outreach project and a drama project. Professional photographers introduce campers to the basics of photography, including the history of the camera, working with lighting and color, operating zoom and flash features and telling a story through images. The drama project gives campers the opportunity to experience live theatrical performances, including Shakespeare and others. While the Fine Arts Program is aimed at fun and learning, it goes much deeper by introducing the campers to new forms of self-expression.

The Nature Program
The nature trail circles the lake and has a primitive camping site, feeding plots for deer and other wildlife, and teaching stations along the trails. Nature hikes offer campers the opportunity to explore the outdoors independently. Campers also enjoy seeing and learning about many varieties of exotic birds which are housed in several aviaries along with natural trails.

Small Animal Farm
The Small Animal Farm allows campers to enjoy their favorite barnyard animals. It features miniature goats, donkeys, horses, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, turtles and host of other animal friends.

Team Sports and Pavilion Activities
Basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer and kickball are just a few of the team sports offered at camp. During summer months, a covered pavilion with height-adjustable basketball goals and a regulation volleyball court enable groups to customize activities in a cooler environment. The pavilion is equipped with lighting for evening activities and a sound system for camp dances and special events. Softball games are played at Camp For All's $130,000, state of the art, Tom Metz Ball Field, donated in honor of a former camp volunteer who succumbed to cancer as a young adult.

Lakefront Activities
Beautiful cypress trees surround an eight-acre lake with a canoe dock, shaded fishing pier and nearby gazebo. A smaller, bass stocked fishing lake provides the opportunity for campers to learn casting techniques and fish directly from the shore.

Treehouse
The Camp For All tree house, mounted atop a huge Oak tree, is a favorite gathering spot for campers who congregate there to visit with friends, hold group activities and to star gaze at night. The tree house overlooks a scenic ravine and can accommodate up to 10 campers in wheel chairs.
