The Riding High Equestrian Program is a non-profit organization designed to touch the lives of those young people and adults who seem untouchable by conventional therapeutic methods.
Executive Director, Honey Cowan, R.N., MFCC, has been counseling adolescents for the past twenty years and has been using horses for therapeutic purposes for the past eleven years. The clients of Riding High Equestrian Program are, by definition, adolescents 'at risk'. They are having trouble with school, law- enforcement and parents. Referrals come from schools, private therapists, and current or past clients. Riding High Equestrian Program has been accepted as part of the Placer County, Contra Costa County and El Dorado County System of Care.
We offer the benefits of equestrian facilitated therapy to clients in a manner that emphasizes the special needs and dignity of each individual. Riding High Equestrian Program provides a safe and secure environment which challenges individuals to learn and to grow.
Through new and innovative methods - in a non-traditional, non-threatening environment - Riding High Equestrian Program uses interaction with horses to build confidence and self esteem.
