Notes

Partners in Equestrian Therapy (P.E.T.) is a unique riding program located in San Luis Obispo, California for children and adults with special needs. The P.E.T.program provides the student with the opportunity to increase physical skills, confidence and self esteem through equestrian therapy (therapeutic horse back riding).

P.E.T. currently runs lessons, both group and private, on Thursday afternoons and Saturdays. Special appointments can also be made to accommodate individual schedules.

Each lesson includes hands on experience with horse tack, grooming, arena riding and/or trail riding. Participants in the program range in age from toddlers to seniors and come from throughout the county to share hands-on interactions with the horses, volunteers and staff.

Our program maintains an emphasis on rider safety. All operations are based on the guidelines and requirements of N.A.R.H.A., the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, of which we are members. In addition to a NARHA certified instructor, each rider has available a lead person and two side walkers, as needed. Professional staff, volunteers, specially trained horses and Norwegian Fjord ponies provide the basis for our successful riding program.
