AFYAP and FIT classes focus on aquatic exercises to increase range of motion and to develop greater flexibility. These classes are taught by an instructor trained and certified through the Arthritis Foundation.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION YMCA AQUATIC PROGRAM (AFYAP)

AFYAP for adults is a recreational exercise program designed to accommodate the abilities of individuals with arthritis and other related diseases. These programs are taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance and flexibility, maintain independence, manage pain and relieve symptoms of arthritis.

FIBROMYALGIA INTERVAL TRAINING (FIT)

This water exercise is designed to help people with fibromyalgia manage pain, stiffness and fatigue. Performed in shallow and deep water, it includes stretching, upper and lower body exercises, aerobic and strengthening exercises, warmup, cool-down and relaxation periods.
