Notes

The Richmond State School is a 241-acre campus serves a ten county area, which includes Harris County and serves one quarter of the population of Texas. The people who live at the Richmond State School consist of a small percentage of people with intellectual disabilities who are unable, at this time, to live in the community because of their disabilities, their medical condition or ongoing behavioral issues.

The Therapeutic Riding Center offers residents equine and pet-assisted activities. In addition to being a wonderful form of exercise, therapeutic riding provides such benefits as improved balance, better muscle tone, enhanced gait and improved coordination, as well as, a great sense of accomplishment. The therapeutic riding program is fully accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association after meeting stringent quality and safety standards and remains the only program of its kind at a state facility
