Notes

GREAT offers private therapeutic horseback riding lessons to children and adults with disabilities. We have a 12-week fall session, a 12-week spring session, and a 4-week summer session. Classes are held in the afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The lessons last approximately 30 – 45 minutes and each individual is working with a certified instructor to accomplish set goals.

Students ride in a group lesson with other students working toward similar goals. The cost of a 12-week session is $240.00 ($20.00 per ride). Scholarship funding is available. All students must have a current student application on file at GREAT.

Shriner's Hospital Riding Program

Shriner's Hospital and GREAT have formed a partnership to offer therapeutic horseback riding to children and teens who are inpatients at the hospital. The hospital staff brings up to six children or teens on Friday from 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM during our Fall and Spring sessions. Together with GREAT's NARHA certified instructors, Shriner's staff of licensed therapists and child life specialists help the students to accomplish set goals.

Caddo Parish Schools Adaptive Physical Education Program

Caddo Parish School System and GREAT have formed a partnership that enables children and teens with disabilities from local Caddo parish schools to participate in therapeutic horseback riding as a part of their adaptive physical education curriculum. Classes are held Monday – Thursday mornings from 8:30 AM to 11:00 Am during our Fall and Spring Sessions. A different school attends each morning bringing up to 10 students as well as adaptive physical education teacher, and licensed therapists to assist the students in accomplishing set goals.
