Notes

The Animal Assisted Therapy Program provides individualized therapeutic interventions through the use of horses and small animals such as goats, sheep and rabbits. Based on information provided by the referral source, goals are developed for the client to complement that client's treatment plan.

Such goals may include behavior modification, anger management, socialization or physical therapy intervention goals such as improvement of motor skills, coordination, balance or muscle control.

This program helps clients reach these goals by exposing them to a variety of educational benefits, as well as therapeutic components, while enabling the clients to obtain a sense of mastery. Activities in the program are directly linked back to the individual's treatment plan, and progress is noted.

Program components include:
  • Riding instruction
  • Horse care instruction
  • Trail rides on approximately three miles of trails
  • Indoor and outdoor riding arenas
  • Small animal care and instruction
  • Vocational experience
