Notes

Founded in 1972, the National Center for Therapeutic Riding, Inc., is dedicated to promoting the physical and mental development of children and adults who have physical, emotional, or learning disabilities. Instruction in horseback riding and horsemanship is used as a therapeutic strategy for working with our students to maximize their potential. The NCTR serves individuals of all ages, but the majority of its students are of school age. Many of our students come to us through referral from the special education program of the D.C. Public School System. However, regardless of the person's age or the disability involved, staff work to establish a framework in which short and long-term goals for each program participant can be realized. The National Center for Therapeutic Riding strives to help students gain in confidence and self-esteem, improve their physical well-being, enhance academic skills, and develop behavioral and social awareness.
