Camp Setebaid is a week-long summer camp for children and teens with diabetes aged 8-17 years. A program of Setebaid Services, Camp Setebaid is located in the mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, near the town of Berwick.
This camp offers beautiful forests and grasslands threaded with hiking trails and a lake for boating and stocked for fishing. Campers live in one of four units; each unit is staffed with a medical team (physician, nurse educator, and dietitian), counselors, and an administrative leader. The main camp houses the dining hall, Olympic pool, bathhouse, archery range, and playing fields. With over 200 acres of campus, Camp Setebaid offers a plethora of activities.
The camp is staffed by mature adults and experienced professionals, including a Camp Director, two Program Directors, a physician Medical Director, and experienced counselors. All staff, many who have diabetes themselves, are trained in child developmental psychology, working with children, and diabetes health issues.
Events include all-camp activities, including games, skits, dances and other fun activities. Campfires are times for stories, reflection and enjoyment of new songs and new friends.
Camp Setebaid is held, where it was founded, at Camp Louise, in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania. The forests and mountains of state game lands surround the extensive campsite, over 226 acres. At the center of Camp Louise is a lake, complete with island and wetlands. The woods are populated by typical Pennsylvania wildlife; if you're quiet in the early morning or just before dusk, you'll see deer, rabbits, and other wildlife along the many trails at camp. The elevation and trees make the climate comfortable most days, even in August.
The camp consists of a central field and buildings, including the dining and assembly hall and swimming pool. The lake is near the center of camp. Scattered through the forest are four units, each complete with a campfire area, and lavatory facilities.
