Camp Jordan is hosted by Makemie Woods in Barhamsville VA (near Williamsburg VA), and the program closely resembles the Makemie Woods programs. Makemie Woods is accredited by the American Camping Association.
In addition to the swimming, canoeing, crafts, campfires, cookouts, games, archery etc., that are standards in the Makemie Woods programs, education about nutrition and other concerns specific to diabetes is provided.
Physicians and nurses will provide medical supervision. Many of the medical, nursing, and nutritional personnel are volunteers from the supporting hospitals and private practices. Counselors, certified lifeguards for water activities, and program directors directly supervise the campers in all activities. The program staff is provided by Makemie Woods and is recruited nationally and internationally. They are carefully screened and trained to provide a safe and successful experience. Frequently there are members of the staff who have diabetes and attended Camp Jordan when they were younger.
