Staff Training and Certification
  • Staff Training: The staff members are certified fitness instructors professionally trained in exercise science. They hold college degrees and are certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. In addition, they are certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), blood pressure screening and the correct use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The staff at Parkview Health & Fitness is experienced and eager to serve the health and wellness needs of the community. They are active in the community, promoting health to schools and other community organizations

Parkview Health & Fitness Center, located at 3000 E. State Blvd., is a service of Parkview Hospital. The center offers medically supervised programs, with a goal of helping people exercise properly. Services to our members include cardiovascular fitness equipment, Nautilus machines, free weights, an indoor and outdoor walking track, aerobics, educational clinics and lectures.

Parkview Health & Fitness offers a comfortable exercising atmosphere. This 13,000-square foot facility caters to a wide variety of people of all ages who exercise for the benefit of their health and enjoyment. The aerobics room has an elevated shock-reducing floor (20 classes offered per week with a variety of emphasis). Locker rooms with showers, hair dryers and free towel service are available.

Fitness equipment at Parkview Health & Fitness is regularly updated and includes new, top-of-the-line Nautilus equipment, more than 50 pieces of updated cardiovascular equipment, as well as the following:

  • Nordic ski tracks

  • Indoor track for walkers
  • Elliptical trainers
Outdoor exercise is available on the Mark Slen Trail, which is conveniently located between Parkview Health & Fitness and Parkview Hospital. It’s an eight-foot wide, asphalt-surfaced trail that is appropriate for walking, jogging, bicycling and wheelchairs. It is one and one-third miles long. Persons using the trail are guided by arrows and distance markers painted on the asphalt.

Physical Fitness Programs:
Adult fitness:
An exercise program designed for the individual with no known heart disease risk factors. Certified exercise instructors develop personalized exercise prescriptions based on the person's health status and fitness goals.

Supervised exercise:
A Parkview Health & Fitness program designed for persons who are at high risk or those with known disease or injury. Based on a physician prescription, instructors develop an exercise program and provide supervision and support, as well as progress reports to the physician.

Exercise classes:
Exercise routines are choreographed to a variety of music by a certified instructor to insure that the movements are safe and effective. Available aerobics classes include low-impact, step, yoga, kick-boxing and toning. Classes run approximately 60 minutes.

Senior Stretchers:
A program designed for the older adult. The class consists of controlled stretching and muscle strengthening exercises, plus a brisk walking program. The class meets two times per week on an ongoing basis.

Obesity Programs:

SHAPEDOWN� is a nationally recognized pediatric weight management program designed for youth, ages 9 to 18, and their families to improve overall health. Two Registered Dietitians teach the program, and a Behavior Therapist works with each participant on lifestyle changes in nutrition and physical activity. Parkview is the only organization in northern Indiana whose staff has been specially trained and licensed to offer this program. SHAPEDOWN is offered at various times and sites at Parkview and throughout the Fort Wayne area.
