Notes

The Accessible Recreation Activities Program (ARAP) has been providing recreational activities for those with physical and/or developmental disabilities for the past 20 years. Following through with Redwood City’s ideals, our primary goal at ARAP is to enable individuals to have meaningful, productive, and most importantly fun recreational experiences.

ARAP participants range from age 14 and up and are typically mildly independent. Some live on their own, others with their parents, and many live in group homes. For all our participants, we offer an opportunity to work on physical, social and life skills in a fun, safe and comforting environment. We thrive to create an environment in which all can succeed. Current ARAP programs include bi-monthly theatre trips, art, drama, and fitness classes along with a wide range of other special events.

In addition to ARAP, Redwood City also offers an Inclusion Program in which people with disabilities can join programming outside of ARAP with the assistance of a volunteer buddy. Volunteer buddies range from ages 15 and up and can provide any one on one attention and support that may be needed.
