The Therapeutic Horticulture Program provides therapeutic interventions by engaging the participants in planting and gardening activities. Each individual involved in the program has goals for behavior modification, such as anger management and socialization. The program helps clients reach these goals by exposing them to a variety of educational benefits, as well as therapeutic components, while enabling the clients to obtain a sense of mastery. Activities in the program are directly linked back to the youngster's treatment plan, and progress is noted. The practical experience of planting and growing a garden translates to a real knowledge of science and math (units of measure, growing process) and history (use of plants). In addition, clients learn the practical use and nutritional value of vegetables.
